This is suuuuchh a wondersul gallery. Have you thought about one last family reunion with Moran, maybe Thanksgiving, or Halloween would be a little warmer. Also, if they're tearing the place down, what about getting a window or at least the wonderful painted woodwork from a window. Mount it on your wall over a life size photo of the beach. It would bring back such good memories every time you looked at it.

Thanks for all the nice comments pink. You are too kind. Some thought has been put to another trip but logistically it's difficult to get all the families off work at the same time.
Plus they stay fairly well booked up through the season.

Thought has been put into salvaging memories from the wreckage and requests have been hinted at but it seems a little vulture-like to me at the moment.

I'm off to Buchannon, WV next week. A site right on the river is where I'll be.

I must have missed the beginning of this series....for some reason when I clicked on this gallery I was always at the end and had to work back....
I agree with pink about getting something from the Morans before its gone...It's not vulture-like...its trying to preserve a memory...I can't wait to revisit from start to finish
I love this shot of you...did Deanna take it?

no wonder you and your family are sad about the demise of the place where you shared so many family events and memories.

The early bird.

I'm enjoying this gallery. Even after the place is gone, the memories and buzz gallery will bring it all back to you. What a great idea.

Thanks for the invite.

Think of it as an adoption, a new home for an old friend, as recycling, saving the landfill, saving the planet...or preventing big developement from making even MORE money by selling the good stuff to a re-salvage yard.

I have to tell you, this is an absolutely wonderful series. You brought back a lot of memories for me of my childhood summer trips.

You have an amazing family. Thank you for sharing your special family vacation with us.

Kure Beach 2005
My family has been vacationing every year since 1963 in Kure Beach North Carolina. We have been staying at the same old funky Mom and Pop motel for forty-two years. It is our hometown for one week a year and the owners there treat us just like family.

This year was quite likely the last year for the Moran Motel. Like several other small motels there, Moran's has been swallowed up by big business and will in all likelyhood be bulldozed this coming December and replaced by a multi-story hotel.

It was a great week tinged by a bit of sadness because in the back of our minds we knew this truly could be the end of an era. That remains to be seen.

BE WARNED: THIS IS A BIG ONE.

Here is a video link with more info on the story.

Click on the little video camera under the three photos.
You know the drill.

Just us three (and the pets) doing everyday stuff.

Nothing too exciting. Somewhere between Ozzy and Harriet and the Osbournes.
